Where To Begin?... Great Question!

While our teacher might have his own ideas of where to begin, I can only offer the benefit of my personal experience in having collected and listened to so many of these messages in my early faith journey, when they were still tapes.

Back then, based on what little knowledge I had, the Bible was quite intimidating. I didn’t know how or where to begin. So I'd expect that a website offering a thousand choices may not be much less overwhelming, especially when it comes without instruction.

So often, the answer depends on “where you are” in your walk. Some will understandably ‘cut to the chase’ and seek out specific areas of interest. That’s fine.

However for many others, a bit of direction would be most welcome. There's something for everybody here. Accordingly, I’ll offer a few nuggets and suggest a few favorites to help you get started. So enjoy. A Banquet awaits you, and you are invited.

Remember always, that as you draw nearer to Him, He will draw nearer to you. [James 4:8]

The Early Years > Old Testament > Part One – In The Beginning [6 talks] and Part Two – Prelude To the Kingdom [6 talks]
An amazing introduction for those whose knowledge of the Old Testament is minimal. The series begins with the creation story….but what are we reading? Is the Bible two books in one? (Old Testament and New) Or is it a compilation of 66 books? What is it, and how was it written?
This series addresses several of the great themes that frame the entirety of scripture as God’s progressive revelation unfolds. The principle of “chosen-ness” of the Jewish nation is explained. Gain the vital framework necessary for a deeper understanding of scripture to follow.

The Early Years > New Testament > The Miracles of Jesus (from the Gospel of John) [8 talks]
In the gospel of John we witness but a glimpse of Jesus earthly work as he walked among his people. In chapter 20, verse 31, he reveals the purpose of recording these miracles: “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” I say this is but a glimpse, as John’s gospel closes out with these words, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

The Early Years > Special Series> Doubters Welcome [5 talks]
Perhaps you know someone who struggles with one of these questions? Perhaps you do? Put on your thinking cap. Dr. Howe’s background in philosophy is evident here. Useful in evangelism, as well.

The Early Years > Special Series> The Ten Commandments [10 talks]
Familiar turf here? We’ve heard them all so many times before, but perhaps not like this. Are these “rules” a prescription, or a description of how we are to live our lives?

The Early Years > Special Series> Other Religions > Judaism [1 talk]
1st century Judaism – Sometime called a "wineskin lacking wine". Christ as the fulfillment of Judaism. Understanding this critical dovetail is vital. Lost on many, even today.

The Middle Years > Special Series> Questions Christians Ask > #8 Why Didn't God Just Forgive Us? [1 talk]
Ok, we’re not perfect. Can’t God, who is suppossed to be so merciful, simply forgive us of our shortcomings? Where’s the rub?

Sermons?
While I refer to the above messages as “Teachings”, about 10% of BibleBanquet messages are “Sermons”. Without an attempt to explain the difference, "Sermons" were usually offered in the context of a Sunday morning worship service. “Teachings” were typically recorded in a different venue. They might have been offered mid-week, during a time set aside specifically for this purpose; and they often extend 2-3 times longer. A favorite sermon? Try this one!
